[After all the festivities have been thoroughly enjoyed, Alluka and Killua turn off the lights and break from the party with Alluka's gifts in hand. They trod down the hallway with softened bellies full of cake and ice cream. Alluka checks her watch to see that Pepsi's awake again and some of her stats have gone down, so she fiddles with the little buttons and cares for her while she walks.

Humming the birthday song, she looks over at Killua with a beaming smile when they arrive outside of her cabin. She finishes the last note by getting up on her tip-toes to kiss him on the cheek.]

Thank you for playing with me all day, big brother! I got so many wonderful presents today! Kalluto was fun, too! It's the best birthday I've ever had!

[She unlocks her door and pulls it open, heading inside with a carefree gait and not considering that she might be forgetting something. She sets her extra boxed cake on her desk with the little handcrafted paper doll kalluto made on top of it before freezing up completely with her back to him.]

Where's my present, Killua..? When do I get to play..?

[Her heartbeat changes, spiking in her chest with a jealousy that isn't hers. Alluka hears words that aren't her own coming from her own mouth as her vision fades to black, and she realizes Nanika, who had been dormant for a long time, is finally coming out again. Her last thoughts before she falls asleep are how much she missed her and how she hopes Nanika will have as much fun as she did at the party.]

[She makes quick work of the gland until she's done, then leans in to steal a self-indulgent kiss off her brother's lips as a cherry on top of her enormously costly cake.

He finally makes a request of her, and she pulls back with a simple smile.]

'Kay.

[Getting to work, Nanika reaches down and nudges his hand aside so she can touch his gaping side with a brightly glowing hand. The wound stitches itself back up until it's seamless with the rest of his skin, and underneath, a new kidney grows at the end of his severed arteries, growing big and plump to fill in all that empty space as if nothing had happened at all. As soon as tissue is done fusing back together, the glow fades, and she falls forward into him after her exhausted eyes flutter shut. Pure, unadulterated joy is the last thing she feels before passing out.

There's a ring of scarlet blood all over her the hemmed edges of her sleeves, as well as drips and splatters all over the front of her shirt.]

*a bitter, bloody kiss is the last gift he shares before relinquishing his fate to her, letting nanika gently pull his hand out of his gushing wound and seal the open cavity herself, repaying him for his sacrifice. with a gasping breath of relief, he feels the rush of blood reentering his veins, filling his drained system with life until he feels full and whole once again. his heart pumps gratefully in his chest as she collapses against it, its beat so strong one could never guess it was dying out just moments before. he lifts a hand still stained with blood but no longer injured, and tentatively pets her head, murmuring,*

*he silently lays her down on the mattress and gazes dully around at the mess they've made, barely able to process the sharp turn the evening had taken. the room looks like something out of a horror movie, alluka's pink blankets and party favors stained with deep red. deafening the cacophony of dreadful questions swirling between his ears, he sets himself to the practical task of cleaning up so alluka won't have to wake to such a terrible sight. he strips off the bloodstained blankets, then her clothes themselves and gathers them up to haul to the underwear room, where his own clothes are quickly cleansed as well.

he returns soon after to find her still sleeping soundly, belly round with festivities and flesh. her face and hands are still smeared crimson, so he grabs a wet rag from the bathroom and sits down beside her to gently wash the blood from her skin, chills running through him each time he remembers it's his.

a deep sadness settles over him as he slips a new nightshirt on her, arranging her delicately amongst the pillows. he must have been foolish to think his sister had been spared the bloodlust of their family line; clearly it's ingrained so deeply into their genes that, despite his best efforts all this time, he couldn't save her from it. at least it'd been he who paid the price.

sliding into the cramped bed, he curls tight around his satiated sister but struggles to close his eyes, haunted by all that's happened. sleep won't find him for a long time, and when it does, nightmares are sure to follow. he hopes, at least, that her dreams will be pleasant. he kisses her rosy cheek, wincing at the scent of his blood on her breath.*
